Meetings


First Monday meeting:
    Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month at 7:30 PM. 
                                     NEW MEETING LOCATION SINCE JULY

Since July, we are meeting at the Jewish Community Center in Room 119, which is on  the lower level of the building.  JCC is located at 5601 South Braeswood Boulevard, Houston, TX 77096-3999. 

 Meetings consist of a "music circle", allowing each attendee an opportunity for a musical performance, share a song, tall tale, announcement, or other item which he or she may wish to share with the group.   Non-performers are just as welcome as performers. After all, musicians, singers, storytellers, all need an audience.

                             




The Cotton Patch Rag

A monthly newsletter of the Houston Folklore & Folk Music Society, The Cotton Patch Rag includes a calendar of folk music events in and near Houston, reviews of albums and concerts, articles about folklore, music, musicians, and news of the Society's business. The Houston Folklore & Folk Music Society membership price of $15.00 per year includes the subscription and monthly mailing of The Cotton Patch Rag.



Our EMAIL List

 “We have an email distribution list that we use to email information about Second Saturday Concerts and about our monthly pickin’ parties.  If you are interested, you can email hartmancm@sbcglobal.net and ask to be put on the Folklore list.  You will only get 2 emails per month from us and we do NOT share our distribution list.”

                                    FEBRUARY PICKIN’ PARTY

Sue and Van Metzler are hosting a pickin’ party on Sunday, February 19, 2 PM, at their home, 7445 Dillon Ave. Houston TX 77061. This is near Hobby Airport.

From I-45, head west on Airport Road. Go past Hobby Airport and turn right (north) on Telephone Rd. (Hwy 35). Turn left (west) on Dillon. Due to the medians, you have to pass 7445 Dillon by half a block and make a U-turn.  (Avoid Telephone Rd south of the  Highway 8 Tollway because of a flea market.)

   If additional directions are needed please call the Metzlers’ at 713-645-5755 for directions.
