Songbird Sanctuary concerts are hosted by Sara Draper and Tom Yeager in their 100-year old home in Montrose. Tom has hosted performers of a variety of genres in occasional concerts in the same home since 1976. The Songbird Sanctuary folk music series started in 2002 and features about 10 concerts each season specializing in artists with 30 or more years of performing experience who are eminent in other parts of the country, but who have never or rarely played in Houston before. Some of the artists may be unknown here, but are among the nation's most inspiring folk performers. A potluck dinner of home-cooked food precedes each show, and a picking party follows.
Most concerts are sold out a week or more in advance to regular attendees who delight in welcoming new faces to the audience. For more information, contact Tom and Sara at music@songbirdsanctuary.org or (713) 524-6545.

Some people forget and some may have never known that in these days when draconian measures justified by imagined threats are the height of fashion all of our public streets are no longer public.  Such is the case in this neighborhood I must point out by way of this warning.

There is a forbidden territory, a no-man's land, a contraband sector on Stratford Street, our east-west fronting street, in the westerly or lefterly direction starting at Helena Street, the north-south cross street of our corner, and extending, one imagines, to the horizon.  This hinterland is reserved by way of ambiguous signage for its own resident plebeians who proudly pay for permits protecting their greedy exclusivity but who must sport silly decals on their cars as proof.  If you bootleg a spot therein, you shan't be bed-lifted to a demon lot, but will likely be gifted a pink summons which will eat a $35 hole into your billfold.

Park as you like in front of our home and to the east or right direction on Stratford on either side of the street.  Park, too, on Helena on either side, but always pointing the correct direction.  Even more, if you plan to evacuate just after the main concert, you may avail yourself to an open spot in our driveway, keeping in mind that with careful aim it can can safely harbor 6 cars.  Of course, if you have a special need or question give us a call, now, or as you arrive.
